After Solskjaer’s departure, Michael Carrick turned around Man Utd’s losing ways, scoring two wins and a draw in its three games across all competitions. Crystal Palace, however, have had a contrasting fortune: they suffered back-to-back losses after staying undefeated for the three previous games. Let’s take a look at their current season performance.

Man Utd v Crystal Prediction - Preview

Manchester United F.C.

Manchester United have ascended back up the table, now seated 7th in the Premier League. Their last game saw caretaker manager Michael Carrick go out on a high note as they beat Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford. The Gunners went ahead on a controversial goal, wherein David de Gea was accidentally tackled by teammate Fred, and Emile Smith-Rowe struck in the goal on 13 minutes with the Spaniard still on the ground. (The goal was allowed as the referee’s whistle was blown after the ball went in). The Red Devils rebounded as Fred laid off the ball to Bruno Fernandes, equalising a minute before the break. Marcus Rashford then teed up Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese scoring his 800th career goal on 50 minutes. Martin Odegaard was quick to level, netting just 2 minutes later. However, Odegaard helped the Gunners concede the lead, as his foul on Fred awarded Man Utd the penalty, with Ronaldo converting yet again and sealing the victory. Rangnick, whose working visa was issued just in time for the Crystal Palace clash, was on-hand to witness the game. Can he keep the momentum going this weekend?

  • Man Utd did not win either of their league matches with Crystal Palace last season (D1 L1). They have not had three consecutive games without a win against the Eagles since a four-match run between 1925 and 1970.
  • The Red Devils have conceded in 15 consecutive home matches in all competitions–their second-longest ever run, after a 21-game streak ending in March 1959.

Crystal Palace F.C.

Crystal Palace are currently seeded 11th in the EPL table. They are coming off after a painful 0-1 loss to Leeds United at Elland Road. The Whites were in control of most of the match, but were subjected to a scare twice due to efforts by Christian Benteke, who came off the bench. Benteke’s wide header and saved shot by Illan Meslier were opportunities that cost the Eagles in the end, with Raphinha scoring the lone goal in stoppage time. Manager Vieira admitted that Palace were lacking the cutting edge in the game against Leeds. A tall order awaits them as they face a reinvigorated Man Utd looking to extend their winning ways with “the German Professor” at the helm.

  • Crystal Palace have won their last two away EPL matches against Man Utd, which is as many as they have in their previous 22 Old Trafford games in league competition (W2 D3 L17).
  • The Eagles have taken 7 points from their last four EPL meetings with the Red Devils (W2 D1 L1), as many as they have in their previous 23 against them (W1 D4 L18).

Man Utd v Crystal Prediction - Final Thoughts

With Man Utd getting back to form, a victory against a struggling Crystal Palace side is still in the cards despite a change in management.  Vieira and his men will also be looking to retool their strategy, and can even pick up a goal in the process. However, with players such as Jadon Sancho finding their full potential, and Ronaldo back in attack mode, the Red Devils are set to dominate the Eagles this time around. Let’s take a look at our predictions.
