Man City v PSG Match Prediction - Form (All Competitions)

Man City have strung up 3 consecutive wins after back-to-back losses across all competitions. PSG has been even more impressive, staying undefeated in the same number of games with 3 wins and 2 draws. Let’s now take a closer look at each side.

Man City v PSG Match Prediction - Preview

Manchester City F.C.

Manchester City are currently on top of Group A, leading PSG by just one point. They easily routed Club Brugge 4-1 in their last UCL outing at Etihad Stadium. Phil Foden opened the scoring on 15 minutes, but John Stones own-goal two minutes after saw the lead evaporate instantly going into the halftime break. The Citizens made up for it by unleashing three consecutive netters courtesy of Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus. They followed this up with back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League, as they beat Manchester United 0-2 and Everton 3-0. Sterling, Rodri and Bernardo Silva all had a netter each in the aforementioned contests. Manager Pep Guardiola knows that PSG have yet to win on their turf, but he could not afford to be complacent knowing that the knockout stages are on the line. It looks like there will hardly be any changes, as Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish among others are still on the injured list.

  • Man City have won both matches against PSG on home soil in the UCL – 1-0 in April 2016 and 2-0 in May 2021.
  • Only Bayern Munich have scored more goals (17) than the Citizens (15) this season in the UCL. The Mancunians have averaged 3.4 expected goals per match in the competition in 2021/22; since 2013/14 this is the highest per match average by a team in the UCL group stage.

Paris Saint-Germain F.C.

Paris Saint-Germain, who are currently second in the table, are just one point clear of Man City. They were held to a draw by RB Leipzig in their last UCL match at the Red Bull Arena. Christopher Nkunku gave the early lead to the Bulls at 8 minutes, but Georginio Wijnaldum’s first-half brace put the Parisiens in the driver’s seat. However, the home team was able to avoid defeat in stoppage time as Dominik Szoboszlai converted his penalty kick. PSG were back in winning form soon in Ligue 1 with consecutive victories over Bordeaux (2-3) and Nantes (3-1). The super trio of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi provided the goals for these 2 contests, affirming their claim as the best front line in Europe. Manage Mauricio Pochettino, who was linked to a possible move to Manchester United after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal, is now tasked with leading Paris to their first UCL victory at the Etihad. Could he and his men deliver?

  • After just winning one of their initial 10 away games against English opponents (D4 L5), PSG have won 2 of their last 3 games against England clubs (L1): 2-0 in February 2019 and 3-1 in December 2020 against Man City’s neighbours Manchester United.
  • The Parisiens have only won 20% of their outings against the Citizens in the UCL (1/5). Among teams they have faced at least 5 times in the competition, only against Real Madrid (17%, 1-6) do they have a lower win percentage.

Man City v PSG Match Prediction - Final Thoughts

Even with Man City being decimated by PSG in their earlier fixture, this is looking to be a tight affair, considering the depth of both teams. While the Mancunians have a large throng of supporters and superb playmaking on their side, PSG aren’t the current Ligue 1 leaders for nothing. Sergio Ramos’ debut will certainly fortify Paris’ defensive line, and the MSN trio are capable of delivering in big moments. In this close contest, we see the Parisiens narrowly breaking their curse at the Etihad and moving into pole position in their UCL group. With that, let’s take a look at our prediction.
