Liverpool v Arsenal Prediction - Preview

Liverpool F.C.

Liverpool are now seated 4th in the EPL table after 11 matches. Their last match saw them lose for the first time this season to West Ham United, 3-2, at London Stadium. Alisson gave the Hammers the advantage when he redirected Pablo Fornals’ corner into his net. But Trent Alexander-Arnold cancelled out the goal with a curl from 25 yards out just before half-time. Fornals then was able to strike in a low shot on 67 minutes to reclaim the lead, and Kurt Zouma headed in a corner from Jarrod Bowen to pull the Londoners further away. Reds sub Divock Origi provided hope with a finish on 83 minutes, but the scoreline remained till the end. Manager Jurgen Klopp questioned the spotty officiating which led to his side’s first loss, but now they have to put it all behind them and get back to their winning ways, as they host the resurgent Arsenal next.

  • Liverpool’s defeat at West Ham ended the Reds’ 20-match unbeaten run in the league. Each of their last 3 losses in the competition have been against London clubs; they lost consecutively against Chelsea and Fulham before that 20-game sequence.
  • Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in 9 goals in 9 EPL appearances against Arsenal (7 goals, 2 assists). At Anfield for Liverpool, he has scored 4 times and assisted 2 more in 4 league outings against the Gunners.

Arsenal F.C.

Arsenal are just beneath Liverpool by one place at the league table. They continued their winning streak against Watford, beating them 1-0 at Emirates Stadium. Emile Smith-Rowe scored the difference-making goal, striking from the edge of the penalty area after Ben White brought down the ball from across the pitch. Manager Mikel Arteta, who also celebrated his 100th game as boss of the Gunners, could not be more happy with the result, after his tenure was in doubt following a slow start to the season. They next visit Liverpool, who are itching to make up for their loss last time out.

  • Arsenal now currently have the longest unbeaten streak in the EPL (8 – W6 D2). They last had a longer run without defeat in the competition between August- December 2018 (14 matches under Unai Emery).
  • The Gunners have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 9 EPL away matches, including each of the last 3 successive ones. The y haven’t kept 4 straight away clean sheets in the competition since May 2005.

Liverpool v Arsenal Prediction - Final Thoughts

Liverpool will be missing key men in the match, with Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Andrew Roberston looking doubtful due to injury.  However, Mohamed Salah will be as deadly as ever, and the likes of Virgil van Dijk will back him up with impeccable defence. Expect Arsenal to come out swinging, though, as Rowe-Smith, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette lead the charge. In the end, however, the Merseysiders have just enough to pull through and get back to their winning ways.  Let’s take a look at our predictions.
