Blackburn v Peterborough Prediction - Preview

Blackburn Rovers F.C.

Blackburn Rovers are now seated 8th in the Championship table. They drew their most recent encounter against Bristol City when they visited Ashton Gate. Callum O’Dowda had the Robins ahead at the half when he scored on 34 minutes. However, Ben Brereton Diaz, who was fresh off international duty for Chile, levelled just 25 minutes before full time. Manager Tony Mowbray felt that his men underperformed in the first half, but thought that they redeemed themselves in a big way in the next 45 minutes. Could the Blue and Whites push on as they take on Posh at home?

  • Blackburn are the first second-tier team to win as many as 5 of their last 9 home league games of the season while conceding as many as 16 goals since Bradford City in 2001/02 (20 conceded in 5 wins).
  • Ben Brereton Diaz has 14 goals in 18 Championship appearances this season; prior to this, he scored only 17 times in 133 appearances at this level.

Peterborough United F.C.

Peterborough United are currently in the relegation zone at 22nd, 12 points clear of Blackburn. They suffered a fourth straight game without a win as they bowed 2-0 to Stoke City at Britannia Stadium. Keeper David Cornell was unable to keep a clean sheet as shots Mario Vrancic and Tyrese Campbell got past him at the beginning and end of the game. Jack Taylor came closest to scoring for Posh when his shot met the crossbar. Manager Darren Ferguson believed that his side was the dominant one in the match, however he admitted that “there was a little bit of quality missing.” They now try to break from their slump as they visit a Rovers side eager to start another win streak.

  • Peterborough had last played against Blackburn in the Championship in March 2013, where Dwight Gale’s hat-trick led Posh to a 2-3 win at Ewood Park.
  • No side has won fewer points in away Championship matches than Peterborough this season (3 – W1 D0 L8). Posh have also been conceding more goals on the road than any other team (24).

Blackburn v Peterborough Prediction - Final Thoughts

Blackburn have been mostly strong at home this season, and we believe it will carry onto this game, with Peterborough struggling to get into form. While Rovers have also been inconsistent, we think they should be able to handle Posh with ease. Let’s take a look at our predictions.
