Man Utd sack Ole! Poch/Zidane to be next coach?

Man Utd sack Ole

Man Utd sack Ole (Sports News)Manchester United has dismissed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a disappointing last few games as Manager. This started with the loss to Man United lost crucial games to bitter rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, and a humiliating result against relegation side Watford 4-1.

The Norwegian 48-year-old also holds the dubious honour of being the first Man Utd manager after the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson to not win the trophy. Solskjaer’s assistant, Michael Carrick will temporarily take over his job, and will oversee the upcoming fixture at Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League group stage on 24 November (Singapore time).

Man Utd Sack Ole - Poor Results Prior to Dismissal

Solskjaer in July signed a new-three year deal in July, but five defeats in their last 7 league matches caused him to leave earlier than expected. The poor results have caused them to go 12 points behind table leaders Chelsea.

Despite overseeing losses to all-time rivals Liverpool (5-0) and derby opponents Manchester City (0-2),  Solskjaer remained in charge, with the board refusing to give into fans’ clamour for his removal.

The debacle at Vicarage Road proved to be the last straw, as mid-table dwellers Watford easily routed the hailed Man Utd side. It was a disappointment following the high profile signings of superstars Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo early in the season.  On Sunday morning England Time), the announcement of his dismissal was made.

Man Utd Sack Ole - Poor Results Prior to Dismissal

Man Utd issued the following statement regarding Solskjaer’s departure. “Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.

“Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.”

Present and past players of Man Utd, such as David Beckham, Patrice Evra, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes also took to social media to express their appreciation for Solskjaer’s time at the club and thank him for his contributions.

Man Utd Sack Ole - Pochettino, Zidane Considered

As to whom should replace Solskjaer, the Man Utd club board has eyed Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane as possible replacements.

Zidane, who has the best resume among the candidates, has aldready expressed disinterest in the job. It will be likely that he would form an instant bond with  Ronaldo and Varane, who once played for Real Madrid during his managerial stint and won three Champions League trophies with him. He was linked with both the France national side and Paris Saint-Germain, and preferred to consider those options if they became available.

Pochettino, on the other hand, has made himself ready for the manager position. The Argentinian is attached to Paris Saint-Germain, and has a one year option to leave PSG. Pochettino is reportedly unhappy in the club, as he continues to stay in a hotel in Paris, while his family is still based in north London. The Man Utd board have been long time admirers of Pochettino and made him a priority signing, making him a leading to take over the job.

Erik ten Hag of Ajax and Brendan Rodgers of Leicester City are also those named as being in consideration for the Man Utd top job.

Man Utd Sack Ole - Barca Dry Spell

The La Liga team has been having issues since their defeat at the Champions League against Bayern Munich last season. Until now, it seems like this also translated to their performance in the Spanish league. But their most recent match against Real Betis ended in a dominant 5-2. We can expect them to make it back into condition as they are currently seated 8th on the table.

With the Argentian’s successful return to his club, we can expect their match this Sunday to be one of the most anticipated clashes in La Liga as they face off against Atletico Madrid who’s form is fairly dominant.
