This has become Arsenal’s second consecutive loss in 2022. This is also the second time they were eliminated at this stage since 1996, with the first time also by Nottingham Forest.

One such standout on Forest side was Djed Spence, the right backer on loan from Aston Villa, who prevented Gabriel Martinelli from getting on target. As a result. Arsenal were already warned of the threat of Forest’ crosses, and this would come to haunt them later on.
Eddie Nketiah’s header from Saka’s cross was the biggest chance they had on scoring. However, they could not make the breakthrough. In the end, it was Forest captain Lewis Grabban (who came on as a substitute) who made the difference as he slid home Ryan Yates cross seven minutes from full time.

“We were not good enough and we have to apologise for it,” Arteta said after the game.”We needed more drive, more hunger to win at any cost in every single action, much more. We were not at our level.
“I’m really disappointed with the performance, first of all. Not with the attitude but how much purpose we have and what determination we showed to change the game when it’s difficult to play against the way they play.
“I have played in games like that for the past 18 years and I know how complicated it is to come here. It’s no surprise the difficulties you are going to face. But when we do that, we have to face it in a different way.
“It is really hurting. It is a competition that is very related to our history and to get out of it is a big bump,” he said, referring to Arsenal’s status of being the most successful side in the tournament’s history,

Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, were a prouder side tonight with the upset win. First-team boss Steven Cooper, who took over Forest in September, and had a string of great showings since then. was delighted with his side’s performance.
“I think we deserved to win,” the Forest manager said. “We came up against a really good team. We had a clear game plan. We wanted to be brave with our pressing and get at them on the counter and that’s how we scored.”
The Championship team now meet Leicester City for their match in the FA Cup fourth round.
