(Sports News) – Legendary striker Sergio Aguero is leaving Manchester City this summer once his contract expires, marking an emotional end to his successful career at the club. The Argentinian scored 182 goals during his time with the Etihad Stadium-based side. He joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011, and made his impact felt from the get-go, scoring during his debut.

Aguero’s years in Manchester have become immensely productive, as he helped lead the club to four league titles and one FA Cup. He holds the record of being City’s biggest goal scorer, with 257 goals in 384 appearances for all competitions. He is also the highest scoring overseas player in Premier League history.
He also won the 2014/15 Golden Boot during his tenure in City and went on to nab the record for most of the Premier League’s hat tricks in January 2020, overtaking Alan Shearer.

In a statement on his Twitter, Aguero expressed his gratitude to supporters of Man City for embracing him as one of their own and showing him support throughout the years.
“A huge sense of satisfaction and pride remains in me for having played with Manchester City for a whole ten seasons –unusual for a professional player this day and age,” the striker said. “Ten seasons with major achievements, throughout which I was able to become the top historic goal scorer and forging an indestructible bond with all those who love this club—people who will always be in my heart.”
“I was to join during the reconstruction era of 2011, and with the guidance of the owners and contributions of many players, we earned a place among the greatest of the world. The task to maintain this well-deserved privileged position will remain on others. As for myself, I will continue to give it my utmost for the rest of the season to win more titles and bring more joy to the fans.”

In a statement on Manchester City’s official website, club Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said that “Sergio’s contribution to the club over the last 10 years cannot be overstated. His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the Club, and maybe even in those who love football.”
“This is not yet the moment for farewell words and speeches. There is still much to achieve in the remainder of the time we have with Sergio, and we look forward to his contributions to the challenges which lay ahead.”
Al Mubarak has also stated that the club will also build as statue outside Etihad Stadium to commemorate Aguero. He will therefore join former teammates Vincent Kompany and David Silva, whose statues are also set to rise at the stadium.
